Patient Care Technician Program
The Certified Patient Care Technician (PCT) Online Program prepares students for a rewarding career in patient care by developing critical clinical and administrative skills. The course focuses on core competencies including direct patient care, phlebotomy, EKG monitoring, infection control, and basic nursing assistant duties. Aligned with NHA CPCT/A certification standards, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with simulation-based practical skills training and a required 160-hour in-person externship.

    • Introduction to body systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, etc.)

    • Understanding disease processes and organ functions

    • Application in clinical documentation

    Module 3: Infection Control and Standard Precautions

    • Hand hygiene, PPE, sterilization techniques

    • CDC and OSHA infection prevention guidelines

    • Transmission-based precautions

    • Sharps disposal, needle-stick injury protocols

    Module 4: Patient Safety and Mobility

    • Fall risk assessment and prevention

    • Safe patient handling and transfer techniques

    • Use of mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers, lifts)

    • Restraints and alternatives

    Module 5: Basic Nursing Skills and Personal Care

    • Bathing, feeding, grooming, oral care

    • Toileting and incontinence care

    • Bed-making (occupied/unoccupied)

    • Patient comfort and dignity

    Module 6: Electrocardiography (EKG/ECG)

    • Cardiovascular anatomy & physiology

    • Manual and digital blood pressure readings

    • Pulse, temperature, respiration rate

    • Therapeutic communication and active listening
